Olive Eggers

I have been working on different olive egger crosses since 2018. My F1s will always be a favorite of mine. They are a cross between Copper Marans and my Standard-bred Ameraucanas. These are excellent, productive layers and make great mothers. For the 2024 season, my F1s will be Black, Blue, and Splash in color, with muffs, beards, and feathered legs! They will express various amounts of copper in their plumage. F1 pullets are guaranteed to lay green eggs. Shades of green/olive will vary, but I have been very impressed with my olives. Some have heavy blooms, some have speckles… it’s always a fun surprise!

My second+ generation crosses are from a Marans cock bird bred to olive laying hens. This is called a backcross (BC1, BC2, etc). These pullets will be Black or Blue in color and may or may not have muffs and beards or feathered shanks. They will also express various amounts of copper in their plumage. About half will be peacombed and the other half will have single combs. The single combed birds will look very similar to their Marans ancestors. Please hatch separately and permanently mark them if you are hatching my eggs. Only about half of these chicks will inherit their mother’s copy of the blue egg gene and only those that do will lay olive eggs. The rest will lay shades of brown.

This season, I’m also taking a step towards creating true-breeding olive eggers. Most of my 2024 hatching goals will revolve around this project. I will be hatching a lot of chicks, but only keeping those with specific traits. I will continue to evaluate them for the traits I want to retain as they mature.

Hatching Eggs-

Fertilized hatching eggs from my olive egger breeding pens may be available throughout the season for $40/dozen. On occasion, I will offer a mixed dozen hatching eggs with the possibility of hatching Marans, Ameraucanas, F1 olive eggers, and backcrosses. These dozens are $60/dozen.

No waiting lists will be kept for hatching eggs. They will be posted as they are available and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Started Pullets-

As of May 1st, I have decided to no longer sell day old chicks from my olive egger breedings. I will be growing out what I hatch until I am able to sex them accurately and will offer started pullets at around 12-16 weeks of age for $30/each. I will have very limited availability, if any, by spring and the spring prices will increase to offset the costs of raising them until point of lay and after.

No waiting lists will be kept for started pullets. They will be posted as they are available and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

I provide LOCAL SALES ONLY. I do not participate in the NPIP program at this time and do NOT offer shipping. However, I may be able to deliver to poultry shows I am attending.
